Pub Crawl: Count them: Top 10 reasons Paddy’s should not be overlooked
Posted: February 7, 2007
Paddy’s American Grille (www.paddysgrille.com) is hidden away in a land far from Portsmouth’s downtown – the Pease International Tradeport. We love Paddy’s lounge and think you need to visit more often. Here’s why:
MULTIMEDIA

|
1. The medium is the message.
There are personal televisions in the booths in the lounge. It’s like being at home, except the people who bring your drinks and wings will be cheerful, not resentful. And if you don’t score a booth (we recommend getting there well before game time), there is a 100-inch projection TV and 20 other screens, so you’ll always have a view of the action.
2. Fire it up.
You can smoke here, with no disapproving looks or cold trips outside in the winter to stand in the "outcast zone." If you don’t like it, don’t go (or stay in the smoke-free dining room).
3. Play hooky.
If you can’t find your boss, go look at Paddy’s. According to the Pease Development Authority Web site (www.peasedev.org), there are 550,000 square feet of "world class" office and industrial space right now. So just imagine how many people work there! This means a large number of people who will need to sneak out for a pick-me-up around 3 p.m.
4. Put some English on it.
Paddy’s has billiards – eight professional-sized tables in one giant room.
5. Fire it up, part deux.
New Hampshire can be cold in the winter. Cozy up to one of Paddy’s roaring fireplaces to get warm.
6. Flappin’ good.
We’re told the jumbo order of Buffalo wings is a highlight of the eclectic American menu.
7. Personal attention.
Make sure the bartenders know your name, and become a member of Paddy’s Mug Club. There will always be a frosty one waiting just for you.
8. Meet a man in uniform.
According to manager Karen Belanger, the lounge is a regular hangout for members of the New Hampshire National Guard (located nearby). Go bat your eyelashes, or just say thanks for their service.
9. Anonymity.
Because of its out-of-the way location, people often forget about Paddy’s. So if you’re trying to have a night out with your friends without running into the girlfriend you told you were working, or just sick of looking at the same people, take a trip to Pease.
10. Al Fresco.
It’s hard to imagine it now, but Paddy’s has a busy summer schedule with outdoor live music — WHEB FM sponsors "Doc on the Deck" and there’s always something going on.
Paddy’s American Grille is located at 27 International Drive at the Tradeport. Find directions at www.paddysgrille.com/Directions.html.
