Foot fetish: Find out what Seacoast women are wearing — and why

We all know women spend a lot of time on shoes. They think about them, spend tons of money on them, and plan them to coordinate perfectly with their outfits and the kind of day they will have. They will buy one pair of shoes just to match the color of a stripe that runs through a pair of pants or grab a new pair just because they are comfortable, fun, stylish, or whatever other excuse they can think of at the time. If given the opportunity, space, and never ending budget, many women on the seacoast would probably fill their closets with hundreds upon hundreds of shoes.

Undeniably, most of these shoes are not ideal for the unbearable amount of rain that has been hitting our area since, what was supposed to be, the beginning of summer.

But finally after weeks of rain and muggy weather, we were graced with a beautiful June day. Downtown Portsmouth filled with people strolling through town, sitting in Market Square, or relaxing at outdoor tables at Breaking New Grounds, all of whom were jumping at the chance to take advantage of the nice day, not knowing just how long it was going to last.

With the warm air and the sun shining, women were finally able to wear the shoes they wanted without having to worry what would work best to travel through puddles and slippery pavement.

So, if for no other reason than to find an excuse to also be outside on this amazing day, photo editor Deb Cram and I walked around town to see just what women were wearing on their feet on a bright and sunny summer day in Portsmouth.
